The Least Pearly Gate

DeCandido, in his online discussion of the cartoon, amusingly quips that its worst episode was "The one where they go to a planet that has aliens who enable the kids to learn a valuable lesson about life…" He also notes the following, with which I readily agree:

The show had its good points, most notably that it took advantage of the unlimited costume and makeup capabilities of animation to give us a galaxy that is truly filled with aliens. We also get an SGC that is known to the public, to the extent that humans and aliens are interbreeding (as we see with Ec'co). These would've been cool things to see on the live-action shows – especially Ancients who were truly alien like Draga instead of the proto-humans we got. Plus, Infinity did follow the Stargate credo of doing adventure stories, which is a big part of its appeal.[74]

For those interested in adding the series to their shelves, Shout! Factory distributed the complete set of 26 episodes in 2008 as a four-disc boxset for the U.S. audience, while MGM Home Entertainment offered the show in the United Kingdom under the name Stargate Infinity: Volume 1, even though it contained the entire run, ruling out a second volume. At press-time, fans can also view the series for free at the Tubi streaming platform.[75]

There are not many reasons to recommend Stargate Infinity. It's the disavowed branch of the family tree, and justifiably so. But those marathoning the full franchise – the theatrical film, SG-1, Atlantis, Universe, The Ark of Truth, Continuum, and Origins – might wish to add Stargate's Saturday-morning cartoon to the mix, if for no other reason than to say they've sat through every single episode and film there is. Infinity may pale in comparison to the rest of the saga, but after watching it, you might appreciate the live-action shows even more… because none of them feature R.J. Harrison.
